Founded
in 1999, Maxfield Glass is the creation of glass fusionist Susan
Maxfield. Maxfield Glass has brought beauty and enjoyment to clients
throughout the US. and abroad. Utilizing torches and kilns to make
the glass molten, each of Maxfield Glass? one-of-a-kind pieces begins
with hand cut, broken, pulled and ground parts of glass and other
elements.
Through
a variety of techniques and processes, Maxfield Glass blends texture,
contrast and the unexpected to offer a series of different styles
of glass art, including irregular shapes and woven and layered patterns.
Susan selects the shapes and then creates each unique piece, in
the moment, before placing on the kiln shelf. Through a series of
firings, a new piece of glass is formed and finally coaxed into
its ultimate shape. Susan uses iridized finishes as well as dichroic
and metallic materials that allow pieces to dance in the light.
Leveraging
her skills in painting, Susan often uses another process that involves
fusing hundreds of pieces of glass into a thick network resembling
an abstract painting. Colors and shapes appear suspended amid translucent
glass and come alive, with the piece changing composition through
movement and light.
Susan
derives great joy from creating fine art objects that demand growth
in her techniques, skill and creativity. To that end, Maxfield Glass
aims to create an inspirational range of fused glass art that is
accessible and affordable to everyone ? from consumers to buyers
from fine art galleries.
