Susan has spent decades engaged in numerous art disciplines including oil and acrylic painting, as well fiber and fabric mediums. Susan draws from her diverse art background to create extraordinary glass art that blends various practices, styles and materials. In her early work, Susan focused on precision in her cuts, shapes and designs. However, Susan soon realized that each piece of glass has its own distinct character, unique aesthetic properties and even a mind of its own.

Applying the creative process to different shapes and pieces, the glass provides the opportunity to create, rather than make glass. Susan embraces the unique qualities of glass and has learned to always "yield to the glass."

Leaving the corporate world years ago, Susan Maxfield has found her true passion in fused glass and is following her dream of living as a human being, rather than a human doing.
